Etched in Ombre

I love trying out new techniques, but then I also have a set of techniques I like to keep going back to as part of my card making. As part of an event that Stampin’ Up! held in April for Demonstrators, we had to make a swap with the stamp set ‘Etched in Nature’. I loved the sketchy nature of the stamps, but wanted to make a card focused around the butterfly.

Heating embossing with white and then blending over the top is just a gorgeous look, no matter what stamp set or colours you use. It picks how the detail on the butterfly really nicely – isn’t it gorgeous?

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the stamp set used on this card has since been withdrawn (perhaps only temporarily) due to quality issues. Stampin’ Up! believes in only selling items that continue to meet their high standards.

The background is blended from Misty Moonlight, Magenta Madness & So Saffron to create the gorgeous ombre effect seen. My inspiration being a sunset in a tropical location – just as the sun is disappearing below the horizon.

And to pop the sentiment away from the background, I use my ever faithful white embossing on black with just the most beautiful sentiment “When being together is more important than what you do, you’re with a friend”, which I think is very poignant given the past 12 months the world has been through.

Happy Saffron

Welcome to my Butterfly Bouquet spotlight week – this week will feature 7 video tutorials posted back to back to spotlight this early release collection from the 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue. The collection is made up of several components – Stamps, Dies, Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Specialty Paper.

One of the best creative techniques I have learnt whilst stamping / crafting along with others, is the tone on tone technique. I love how just having one colour ink and the matching card stock creates such a subtle, but beautiful decoration on any project. Inspiration for today’s card was taken from the colours featured in the Designer Series Paper (DSP) in the Butterfly Bijou paper stack.

So Saffron is such a gorgeous colour, I’m not a massive fan of yellows but the subtle nature of So Saffron gets past my yellow barrier and I just couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with that pretty large butterfly or the Natural Touch Specialty Paper.

As the Butterfly Brilliance stamp set does not feature any sentiments, I have teamed today’s project with the Pretty Perennials stamp set. I cannot stop using this large happy stamp and fussy cutting it to sit on my projects. You’ll see that it features a few more times this week!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Product Medleys are amazing. The Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue offers one of my favourite ones in Boho Indigo, not only do you get everything you well need except ink and glue in a single product, but you can buy refill kits to continue making more and more and never run out. With stamps, dies, designer series paper (DSP), embossed card, ribbon & pop outs, there is lots for you to work with and make a variety of projects.

It features one of my favourite colours, Misty Moonlight and pairs it up with Very Vanilla (which isn’t featured enough in my opinion), with gold and green accents in the popups and ribbon.

So, aside from adding a couple of ink pads and picking an adhesive, you receive everything to get you going on your craft journey – perfect for beginners. If you search my website using the tag #bohoindigo you will be able to see exactly what I have made with the set!

Happy Boho News

Stampin’ Up! make simple cards so easy – the products in the Annual Catalogue are beautiful and co-ordinate with one another perfectly. To make life even easier, they bring together Product Medleys – one of which is used in this project. The Boho Indigo product medley is gorgeous, full of floral patterns, shades of blue and finished with gold accents.

This card uses three simple items from that medley – a piece of Designer Series Paper, a gold edged die cut for a sentiment and two gold pop out die cuts for decoration. All I added was the card base and stamp a sentiment – which is ideal for those last minute cards that are needed or for someone who is new to crafting and isn’t sure where to start.

But I think you would agree – Boho Indigo makes great projects every time?

Double Slot Treat Box

Birthday Party Live – Project #6

I love when Stampin’ Up! release dies that make cute little boxes such as the new Little Treat Box dies that are available. They are great when you are struggling to bring a box together for a project and mean you don’t have to work out the measurements before making it. This cute die is meant for a small treat, perhaps a small treat bar or some biscuits?

The treat box size is quite narrow, so does limit the treats that go inside it – however, I adapted mine to have two slots, so double the treats!! Who could say no to that?

To make the project does require two sheets of 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper, but it’s well worth it in my opinion. I chose to make mine from the Regals paper stack, but this could be very easily adapted to suit any occasion. A Christmas Designer Series Paper stack would be perfect with a few stocking filler treats inside – perhaps some chocolate coins?

This project means that there is only one left of my Birthday Party Live Event, I’ll be sad to see it end…
