Best Suited Dad

I say this every time I showcased a masculine card – but they are difficult to design when you need one on the spot. I like to have a couple of card choices already made for when an occasion comes round celebrating a male in my life. Well Suited is the Designer Series Paper (DSP) that features in today’s card – of course – and I decided to layer different patterns together on the card front.

This layering technique was first introduced to me by Sam over at Pootles Papercraft, where you cut down 3 or 4 patterns from a pack of paper and layer them up to make a card front, finishing it off with a simple sentiment / ribbon / embellishment.

I always try to choose two more subtle patterns and then pair them with one a little more funky / bright, which in this collection isn’t too bright but is far more patterned than the others and the tiny sentiment on the white catches your eye. Ready to gift to a dad for any occasion.

Have you tried a layered DSP card?

Suzanne

Happy Suited Birthday!

I mentioned on a post a couple of weeks ago that I struggle when making masculine cards. Which is still the case and even with a gorgeous suite such as ‘Well Suited’, I still find it takes me some time to bring a project together. However, this card came to me quite quickly and was put together in less than 10 minutes.

The vanilla panel in the middle gave me enough white space so the Paisley pattern on the Designer Series Paper (DSP) didn’t overwhelm, but then also somewhere for me to play my bow ties and sentiment.

Now I’m not sure who I’m going to give this too, but I have a masculine Birthday card prepped and in my stash ready for when I need it!

Do you find making masculine card more difficult?

Best Wishes,
Suzanne

Well Suited Hooray

Coming up in the new Jan to June Mini Catalogue, there is a suite that is completely male orientated and I can’t get enough of it! I’m absolutely rubbish at making cards for men no matter what the occasion is. So for those of you who like me, you’re in for a great surprise when the catalogue goes live on 5th January.

The suite contains stamps, dies, paper and twine and is perfectly co-ordinated in the usual Stampin’ Up! style. Perfect for any crafter as it means you spend less time finding the ‘right’ shade of any colour.

This tapered top box is made using Night of Navy, but in my Youtube tutorial I have switched things up and used Basic Black – which turned how far better than I ever expected. By doing different colour combos on camera, I’ve learnt to just go with it and has really surprised myself.

The box is decorated with paper from the suite, but with a sentiment from a new stamp set called ‘You are Amazing’ which features in the Mini Catalogue. It fits perfectly into the Stitched Square I chose and sit’s nicely centred on the front. A touch of ribbon and the project looks gorgeous and ready to gift.

Which colour / pattern do you prefer?

Best Wishes,
Suzanne

Do you often find that making a masculine card is more difficult than making one for a female recipient? I know I do. I try to set myself a challenge that 1 in every 10 cards must be purposely masculine – this way I’ve always got a masculine card for when I need it. I will confess, it’s no easy challenge.

I start by looking through the Designer Series Paper (DSP) available to me in my collection and pick out any masculine patterns. This particular one is from the Peony Garden DSP and the pattern meant I could let that be the focus of the garden with a simple sentiment to finish it off.

The sentiment is from a great stamp set called ‘Banner Year’, it includes many different images and sentiments to suit all occasions – including the little heart, which is so cute! I then finished it off with my favourite embellishment in this year’s Autumn Winter Catalogue – the iridescent pearls!

What do you think? Do you make many masculine cards?

Best Wishes,
Suzanne
